I painted this for my nephew while he was out of town. It came out pretty fresh and i dont get the chance to paint much anymore so it was fun also..

STREET ART : BIRDHOUSE PROJECT-1

I created this pretty large birdhouse out of junk i found in the garbage and leftover scrap wood that ive been saving. I needed to clear out my studio and everything that i got rid of found it's way onto this street work.


It came out pretty cool and i've been seeing alot of passer-by-ers snapping there necks to get a good look at it. The location i found works well with it to.

I wanted to try to continue to reclaim city spaces and re-use discarded materials creating a visual impact but more importantly a home for anything that digs the digs..ya dig?

Heres a vid that was produced for the "Hello My Name is Chicago" Show that took place at The Country Club Gallery over on Damen..
I'm not talking shit but i have no clue who the first 2 dudes were. Never saw them during the process of drop-off and pick up of artwork. Also i get the sense that they have no real clue who the artists are or what there work is inspired from. Sounds like they got a quick 411 2 minutes before the interview.
Also the extreme camera angles gave me a headache.
But all in all im pleased that my 3 pieces were part of the video.

A CAN I'M WORKING ON.

This is being created for a book that is being published out of France. It's going to be a collection of modified spray paint cans that street artists and graffiti artists submitted to the project. Nationally and International artists..I'm sending in my images as we speak, i hope im not to late in submitting it ..i kinda snoozed a bit..

its all vintage fabric,100% silk,paper,ink,paint marker collage.
still refining it tho..

Murals

2006
A mural called "Reflections of Good" that i was the assistant on. Lead artist was Juan Angel Chavez. Juan had a fresh concept blending brick-o-llage,paint,and cut mirror which created a tripped out mural that i still go out of my way to peep. Learned a lot and was a great experience.

1999
a mosaic mural that i was a youth assistant on in '99. i helped out with teaching one summer over at the field museum. i was able to teach the public how to work with clay relief's which were turned into this piece called "Hopes and Dreams". i wasn't part of the final creation and installation of it, but still had a small hand in the beginning's of it..

i was a youth assistant on this here small mural. Lead artist was Chris Silva. Don't remember what year but i was alot younger and alot skinner..hhahaa..

RECENT DESIGN WORK '08

A robot themed artist. I had nothing to go off other than the piece which i scanned. I let the piece speak for itself and let the design work around the selected artwork. I did tho use the gradiation from the piece in the text layout. Lime green to Kelly green then back to Lime green. I also gradually upped the font size to give some visual play, and to highlight whats most important..






A site specific installation show. The artist created a large piece that used string,nails,and hand made letters that hung from a 13ft. ceiling in a column shape. Her installation was based on a poem that had specific letter to color wording..ex. Red "I, Black "a",Blue "o"..so i incorporated that into the design. I also added string like lines that would mimmick the actual strings that she used in her piece.The grid in the background was to look like the electrical conduit grid that hangs from the ceiling and is what the installation hung from also. I had only notes and a vague description to go off for the flier..all in all i think it came out straight tho...

'07 STREET ART...

I made all the pieces used in the street installations about 2 years back..they were part of a solo show that i had. A friend of mine labeled them best "Relationships Art". I guess he said so because i transformed real-time issues, relationship's w/girls,homies,and family into collage mixed media messages. there grounded in collage,marker,paint,do-dads, and whatever junk that i found laying around. i was happy with how they turned out in the show but i was happier with how they turned out in the street installation. i liked what the outside atmosphere added too and enhanced in each work. i guess it was how work produced for the gallery setting can totally change and revamp itself when taken out of what it was initially intended for. go figure. here's what the basic idea of the solo show was: "a stroll through the hustle and bustle of an urban city and an urban dweller as seen through my mind."

they were created in two sets, in two different locations in close proximity.they also lasted about the whole summer with little bits and pieces either being stolen,destroyed,or ravaged by the elements.

Marwen Residency Opening.

So i recently just completed an artist residency at this great place called Marwen Foundation. Its an after school free arts school for inner city chicago public school kids. They have all sorts of great programs and facitiles. I used to take some classes here when i was a youngin, but never fully finished them. I was a troubled youth, haha..

Anyway, i applyed for the residency and wa-laa!! A great space, an ok stipend, a good friend for a mentor, and a great support group within the marwen faculty.

During the residency i focused on silk-screening. I made shirts, screened denim which i made into pillows,made some posters, and screened some bed sheets..ill have finished photos in a bit..

Peep the flyer if your able to make it down to the opening this fri.. its a donation based thang, but it all goes back to supporting art minded inner city kids.so its for a good cause.
